The 21 black shades I ordered are excellent at blocking light and the integration with HomeKit works flawlessly. The measurements I provided for my windows all fit perfectly, so make sure to follow their directions. If you are unsure of a measurement, go a little short on the width so it won't be too snug when installing. Installation of the hardware was dead simple and setup with the iOS Home app took no time at all. I am able to control them with a Homepod and the optional remote controls I purchased reliably, and they are a fun conversation piece for guests on top of the convenience they provide.A few caveats if you are looking to order them to be aware of:20 out of the 21 shades I ordered work perfectly, but one was not reporting its status in HomeKit correctly and would not accept commands. After emailing the service team, they sent a replacement HomeKit adapter to see if that would correct the issue, but it did not. Following that, they sent a replacement motor with instructions on how to replace it, and it finally worked. The service was very helpful and patient in troubleshooting and fixing the issue. Just keep in mind that any replacement parts you receive will be shipped direct from the manufacturer, so it may take several days at least to receive it.When installing the shades, they will likely be set to the measurements to provided when you order. This means the upper and lower limit of the shades will be set and the remote control may already be paired. Test each shade individually to make sure this is the case! If a lower or upper limit is not set it may result in the shade motor continuously running and grind the supports holding them in place. I made this mistake but I was able to solve it by sanding the plastic side and gluing the gear back in place. The kit will include instructions on setting the upper and lower limits and I highly suggest going through it for each unit. Once it is set, no further maintenance is required.These are very affordable and functional shades and I am very pleased with the product and the service that came with it.The cons : not super quiet, but not loud enough for me to care. The Alexa integration is confusing. Setting up Alexa routines is weird b/c it calls the shades “on” or “off”. And when you speak to her to open or close them half the time or more she does the opposite action. I’ve tried saying open/close and off/on. It’s very confusing and I still haven’t figured it out.Pros: I would still buy these again. I have Alexa automatically open them when I turn my morning alarm off, and I have them go back down at sunset. You can set to be open 22% or any level you like. The remote is easy to use. It’s easy to install. And most importantly I have a neighbor that has insane lights they keep on the entire night and it streams into my bedroom. As you can see in the before and after photos I included, the difference is remarkable. These shades are amazing! I highly recommend them! I do have blackout curtains, too. If you truly want zero light and you’re only getting these blinds then I suggest getting the outside mount. The inside mount does let light through the edges, but with my curtains I can’t really tell. Either way you do it, you can see in the one photo that the shades are WAY better than my 2” wood blinds. So it’s still a significant step to darkness no matter how you use theseI would have easily given this 5 stars. However, there is a design flaw in the brackets causing the shade to not install properly. The shade works, but it is not properly clamped to the brackets. This is an issue because it will affect the longevity of the product. This doesn't seem like a defect in my particular unit. The springs in the clamps work perfectly fine, and I have double-checked that. The springs are simply not powerful enough and/or the hooks are not long enough to properly clamp the shade. My unit has 4 brackets and 2 out of 4 can not properly clamp. See attached photos, which show all 4 brackets. Note that two have properly clamped and two have not. No amount of fiddling around will allow the other two brackets to clamp because they simply falls out every time.UPDATE:Got excellent support from the company. They sent me new brackets but they did not help. Still, I managed to eventually fiddle everything to finally attach correctly. The support agent told me they are actively making stronger brackets. Once they send me them, I'll update this to 5 stars. Would buy again.
